CRAPS: A HISTORY

The history of craps seems to be fairly well documented and accepted. Historians have managed to trace its origins back to the Crusades in the 12th century.  At the time British soldiers were known to play a game with a pair of small dice called Hazard, although the rules of this game were quite a bit more complicated than the game we know today.

Hazard was an extremely popular game and easily made its way to France. It didn’t take long for the game to cross the ocean and reach the colonies in America, where the rules of Hazard were simplified and the game spread around many different social levels of society.

Historians can’t say exactly when the game of Hazard got its new name of Craps. However, they claim that this title is derived from the French word for ‘frog’, because of the way people looked when playing it in the streets, crouched around the game.

Craps as we know it came out in 1907. John H. Winn updated the game’s layout and he made some other rule changes that turned out to be a huge success.  During the course of the 20th century, the game gained and lost its popularity. It wasn’t until the 1990s when online casinos came around that it truly secured its spot as one of the most popular games around. Read more about the history of Craps here.

BASIC RULES OF ONLINE CRAPS

Although craps can be described as an easy game, new players at online casinos can often find the terminologies a bit daunting. However, there are just a few basics to memorize. First of all, whoever is rolling the dice is called a ‘shooter’. The betting round begins with a come-out roll. Once the bets are decided, all shooters have to roll their dice. When craps are played online, this is done by clicking the “roll” or “shoot” button. After rolling the dice, there could be three possible outcomes:

Natural

This is the most successful outcome as it means the result of the roll is 7 or 11. This way, a shooter wins and gets another chance to roll the dice.

Craps

It refers to the result of 2 (aka Snake Eyes), 3, or 12, and it means that the shooter lost the round but still has one more chance to roll the dice.

Point

This is a situation when the total result is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. It is a so-called grey area where a shooter neither wins nor loses. The dice are rolled once again and the result must be the same number to win the betting round.

ONLINE CRAPS: TYPES OF WAGERS

Line Bets:

  • Pass Line Bet: this is the bet where a shooter can win.
  • Don’t Pass Line Bet: this is a bet for the shooter to lose. This is the opposite of the Pass Line Bet.
  • Pass Odds: this occurs when a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 are thrown on the ‘come-out roll.
  • Don’t Pass Odds: players can place chips on the don’t pass line.
  • Come Bet: is an entirely new pass line bet.
  • Don’t Come Bet: this is very similar to a don’t pass bet.

STRATEGIES AND WINNING TIPS FOR ONLINE CRAPS

Players are always looking for a strategy or some tips to help them win. In a game like Online Craps, which is purely based on luck, there is nothing you can really do it improve your odds. However, developing your own strategy does stand the chance of improving your experience when playing and giving you a better overall experience.

The fun in online craps comes from the complex betting structure, with some bets being decided after a single roll, while others can take several before a result is determined. As with most gambling games, the general rule of thumb is that the lower the payout is, the more likely that result is to happen. This is why most players try and mix their bets up and have some bets with good and bad odds.

As with most games, we highly recommend that before you start playing, you decide on your budget. Don’t spend more money than that and don’t chase your losses. Also, decide on how much time you’re willing to spend because it is very easy to lose track of time and land up playing for hours. This is likely to get you in trouble with your friends or family, we’d advise against that. Click here to read our full guide on How to Play online Craps.

ADVANTAGES OF PLAYING CRAPS ONLINE

Convenience. The best thing is that players do not need to drive for hours to get to a casino. All our players can just enjoy the fun of craps from the comfort of their home whether it is in Perth or Canberra. No noise or other typical distractions of a land-based casino, it’s purely just the game itself.

Hot Streaks. One thing players will learn about craps is that it is a game of hot streaks. This is especially true when a player is a shooter, as hot streaks seem to be easier to come than other online games.

Edge against the House. Another great advantage is the betting factor. There are numerous ways in which players can place their bets and no one can find a fault in how much time you take.

Craps Variations. There are many craps variations that can be found online that players will never have one dull moment. Whether they want to play a higher streak craps game or just want to relax a little they can try it all.

  1. Bank Craps. This is the most common and standard way of craps. All the above-mentioned rules are applied to this variation. It can be called the most popular version online. If you choose a random game of craps at any online casino, this will most likely be the Bank Craps.
  2. Crapless Craps. The main difference is that when players bet on Pass/Don’t Pass or Come/Don’t Come, there is no possibility to lose if the outcome of Craps (2, 3, or 12) are thrown. It is said that this variation is the most profitable for a player, as a result, many online casinos do not offer it.
  3. Simplified Craps. This is an easier version when a player rolls the dice once and hopes to get an outcome of 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, or 12. If the outcome is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, the player loses the round.

Find the Best Odds. As most players will discover when playing craps is that in the most preached things, is that players should be making odd bets with the prospect that the option is provided. If and when players are not familiar with odds bets then they can always just back pass the line bets along with them.

Casino Bonuses. This is the main perk of any online casino, as there are no land-based casinos that would reward you at an entrance. This should immediately answer any doubts about signing up and playing at the online casinos.
